It was this same Mr. Johnston who expanded the business, not least by merging it with another distillery. The Lagavulin Whisky Distillery draws its water from Loch Sholum and Lochan Sholum, two lochs that lie on the slopes of the small Beinn Sholum mountain. The malt for the production of the dry, smoky Lagavulin Single Malt Whisky comes from the Port Ellen Malting Company.
