The Störtebeker Distillery is situated in Mönchgut on the island of Rügen, in a converted hotel. Since 2009, Störtebeker Single Malt has been produced there, alongside other spirits.
As of 2017, there are already more than 150 distilleries in Germany producing German whisky. Most distilleries produce clear brandies and use whisky production as a niche and side business. Whisky output is at a very low level of sometimes only a few thousand bottles a year depending on the distillery.
