This bottling of a Hercynian Distilling (Glen Els / Elsburn) single malt, released as the distillery’s own bottling, was produced under the name Four Seasons 2013 Claret and bottled in a run of 250 bottles.
Glen Els (from September 2019 distributed under the name Elsburn) is the best-known Harz single malt whisky, produced by Hercynian Distilling Co. / Hammerschmiede, a manufactory for spirits and distillery for whisky in the Harz region of Lower Saxony. The name, like the Elsburn brand, is derived from the geographical location of the spirits manufactory on the Elsbach, in Zorge.
As of 2017, there are already more than 150 distilleries in Germany producing German whisky. Most distilleries produce clear brandies and use whisky production as a niche and side business. Whisky output is at a very low level of sometimes only a few thousand bottles a year depending on the distillery.
