This single malt, named Ayrer’s Tower No. 1, is produced by the Altstadthof brewery in Nuremberg. The whisky was distilled in 2017, matured in virgin oak casks and bottled in 2021 in a run of 500 individually numbered bottles.
As of 2017, there are already more than 150 distilleries in Germany producing German whisky. Most distilleries produce clear brandies and use whisky production as a niche and side business. Whisky output is at a very low level of sometimes only a few thousand bottles a year depending on the distillery.
