This single cask bottling of a single malt from the Ox Distillery in Hösbach was produced as a German Online Whisky Awards Edition. The whisky was distilled in 2015, matured in an ex-bourbon cask, finished in an ex-port wine cask and bottled in 2023.
As of 2017, there are already more than 150 distilleries in Germany producing German whisky. Most distilleries produce clear brandies and use whisky production as a niche and side business. Whisky output is at a very low level of sometimes only a few thousand bottles a year depending on the distillery.
