This bottling of a 7-year-old Hercynian Distilling (Glen Els / Elsburn) single malt as an original distillery bottling was produced under the name Malaga Rare & Special Single Cask Release. The whisky was distilled in 2008, matured in an ex-Malaga cask and bottled in 241 bottles in 2015.
Glen Els (from September 2019 distributed under the name Elsburn) is the best-known Harz single malt whisky, produced by Hercynian Distilling Co. / Hammerschmiede, a manufactory for spirits and distillery for whisky in the Harz region of Lower Saxony. The name, like the Elsburn brand, is derived from the geographical location of the spirits manufactory on the Elsbach, in Zorge.
As of 2017, there are already more than 150 distilleries in Germany producing German whisky. Most distilleries produce clear brandies and use whisky production as a niche and side business. Whisky output is at a very low level of sometimes only a few thousand bottles a year depending on the distillery.
