This bottling of a Yoichi single malt as an original bottling of the distillery with the name Apple Brandy Wood Finish was produced in honour of the 100th wedding anniversary of Masataka & Rita Taketsuru, the whisky was bottled in 2020.
Yoichi is a distillery in Yoichi, a small town near Sapporo on the island of Hokkaido in Japan. It was founded in 1934 by Masataku Taketsuru, who had previously spent 10 years building the first Japanese distillery at Suntory. The distillery is strongly based on the Scottish model, and the location and climate are also reminiscent of the Highlands.
The whisky from Japan is like its makers. At first glance, reserved, respectful and polite. On closer inspection, however, enormously profound and multi-layered. Japanese whisky is the result of perfected craftsmanship. Many whiskies from Japan carry exotic fruity aromas and a floral bouquet in front of them.
