This bottling of a Black & White is a blended Scotch which was originally named House of Commons (after the British House of Commons). The motif (a black Scottish Terrier and a white West Highland White Terrier) was designed by James Buchanan himself in the 1890s.
An original bottle box is included.
The bottle, the outer packaging and the bottle box have been exposed to moisture.
The company James Buchanan & Co. Ltd. goes back to James Buchanan, who founded it in London in 1884 after his own experiences in the whisky business in order to sell bottled Scotch. As early as 1898, Buchanan's whisky became the purveyor to the court of the royal family. Today it is part of Diageo.
Scotland and Scotch whisky is a global trend, a development that has led to a flourishing whisky scene in Scotland. There is hardly a week that goes by in which there is no news about another new distillery being built or the reopening of a distillery that has been closed for a long time.
Scotland, together with Ireland, is today considered the motherland of whisky, whose roots there go back to around 1500 AD.
